About Commonwealth Corporation Workforce Training Fund Express Grants 

NOTE: This page is in the process of being updated as of 6/19/24 for the FY2025 Odyssey Leadership Program that Starts on September 26, 2024. It is not yet fully updated.

Apply for a Massachusetts Workforce Training Grant  at least 21 business days (8/22/2024) before the first session begins for your Massachusetts-based employee(s). Eligible firms may receive a reimbursement of up to $3000 per employee completing this course.

Notice as of July 10, 2023: Employers with over 100 Massachusetts employees will no longer be eligible to receive Express Program grants and will be encouraged to submit General Program applications. See this site for more information. 

This is a Reimbursement program: 

1. Firms must register and pay tuition for their participants in the Odyssey Leadership Program with ACEC/MA first, get a receipt for payment from ACEC/MA, and then may apply for Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Express Grants for two of ACEC/MA's Leadership Education Programs, Emerging Leaders and Odyssey Leadership.

2. An Employer must submit an online application to the Express Grants program at least 21 business days in advance of the desired training start date.  See below for links and directions.

Directions

For the Odyssey Leadership Program, Class of 2025:

• Register and pay tuition for your staff to ACEC/MA and get a copy of receipt that reflects the payment for the course first. 
• Go to the Commonwealth Corporation Workforce Training Fund Express Grant page here: https://commcorp.org/subprogram/wtfp-express-program/
• Then follow instructions under For Applicants and see what you need to submit from the page. You will need to scroll down on the page.
• Using the Express Course Directory, Search on: Odyssey or The Engineering Center Education Trust or  ID #C-0289. This is required for the online application. 
• Note, the rate listed on the Workforce Training Fund site may be the Non-member rate. Any employee of an ACEC/MA Member Firm is eligible to attend at the ACEC/MA Member Rate, so please use the correct rate when applying for the grant.

Effective July 10, 2023 from the Commonwealth Corporation:

1. The maximum amount of a General Program grant will decrease from $250,000 to $200,000 per two-year grant award. This is in addition to the re-implementation of the one-year waiting period between General Program grants. 
2. The maximum amount of Express Program reimbursement that a business may receive for approved training courses will decrease from $30,000 to $20,000 per calendar year.  
3.   Employers with over 100 Massachusetts employees will no longer be eligible to receive Express Program grants and will be encouraged to submit General Program applications. 
4. Employers may only participate in either the Express or General Program at one time. 

Eligible Massachusetts businesses of any size may apply for training grants through the Commonwealth Corporation's Workforce Training Fund’s Express Program for their Massachusetts employees.  Additional limitations apply. The Express Program assists companies by helping to address their employee training needs through a list of pre-registered courses. Companies must pay into the Workforce Training Fund to be eligible to apply for grant funds. Eligible employers complete a short, on-line application to request grant funds for pre-registered training courses. NOTE: Employers must apply 21 days before the first session begins and follow other Workforce Training Fund requirements. 

Grant funds are limited to $3,000 per employee per course and $30,000 per company per calendar year. Courses (such as OSHA) that a company is legally mandated to provide to its employees are not eligible for reimbursement under this grant program. You may only request reimbursement for training individuals who are on your company’s payroll and work in Massachusetts.
