Organizations Working Together on Water Issues for Massachusetts

Across the commonwealth, people are saying it’s time to invest more into our Water Infrastructure.

The Water Infrastructure Alliance (WIA) works to advocate and educate key policy leaders about the importance of investing in the Commonwealth’s water infrastructure. 

in 2012, the Massachusetts Water Infrastructure Finance Commission identified a funding gap of at least $21 billion for addressing the Commonwealth’s water infrastructure needs.  With the upcoming federal stormwater permit requirements, the funding gap will only continue to grow.  Accordingly, the member organizations of the WIA, ranging from drinking water and wastewater provider organizations, environmental groups, engineering and contractor associations, municipal associations, and planning organizations, have continued to educate elected officials about important issues related to water. The condition of our water infrastructure is directly related to public health, public safety, a clean environment and our ability to support and create jobs through economic development.

Water Infrastructure Finance Commission

The Water Infrastructure Finance Commission (WIFC) was established by Act of the Legislature pursuant to Section 145 of Chapter 27 of the Acts of 2009.  The Commission is charged with developing a comprehensive, long range water infrastructure finance plan for the commonwealth and its municipalities.
