The Boston Chamber of Commerce, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, Worcester Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Council Of Western Massachusetts lead this coalition. ACEC/MA joined with these chambers and a number of other business organizations from around the state, including the Mass. Business Roundtable, AIM, Mass Taxpayers Foundation, 1Berkshire, and the North Shore and South Shore Chambers, among others, to develop shared priorities concerning the state’s transportation infrastructure. Recognizing transportation as the backbone of our economy, and the importance of understanding the impact on housing, climate change, congestion alleviation and statewide economic development and job growth when making critical transportation capital investments, the coalition is seeking an increased sense of urgency to implement transportation solutions.
This page includes the results of the coalition survey released to the press on October 30, 2019.
Also attached is the Greater Boston Chamber slide deck on their GBCC-specific agenda.
The survey summary deliberately allows anonymity as has been requested by several groups.
Twenty groups responded to the survey. In the survey document you will see that there are broad indications of the level of support for the benefit of government and public consumption.
“Near Unanimous” means all but one group.
“Strong Majority” means about 85%.
“Majority” means about 70%.
“Fragile Majority” means 55-60%.
As requested by legislative leadership, the coalition has begun to share these results with legislators and with MassDOT Secretary Stephanie Pollack. This process will continue in the coming weeks. All have appreciated our efforts and thoughtfulness.
The survey results do not represent a “coalition position.” The results portray the strength or weakness of the business community support for specific concepts. Elected leaders need to hear the perspectives of individual groups. ACEC/MA will continue to express its support for funding.
Please join with us to advocate for creating the transportation network we all want for the Commonwealth especially in support of economic growth and our workforce. Please contact us to let us know if you can help.
