Today, October 23, is Imagine a Day Without Water
This national campaign invites us to consider what we would do without reliable water and sewer services. With reliable water and sewer service, we do not have to think twice about the infrastructure that brings water to our homes, and then safely returns water to the environment. Without it, we would not be able to live healthy lives, work in a growing economy, or guarantee our public safety.
Please join ACEC/MA today in raising awareness about this initiative. The Imagine a Day Without Water website: http://imagineadaywithoutwater.org/ has plenty of information and helpful social media graphics that can be used to bring attention to this important subject.
We've posted on @ACECMA on Twitter and ACEC/MA's LinkedIn Page about this too. You can share our posts or create your own.
Recent Massachusetts House of Representatives' initiatives have taken steps to close our $17 billion water infrastructure funding gap, although significant work remains to fully fund our water system, including:
The GreenWorks bill passed unanimously by the House allows for funding to be used for water-related resiliency projects, thanks in part to an amendment filed by Rep. Paul Brodeur. It is now awaiting action in the Massachusetts Senate.
The supplementary budget that the House voted to pass last week included a $35 million transfer to the Clean Water Trust for infrastructure projects, a $24 million investment in testing for potential PFAS contamination in water supplies, and $5 million for de-leading projects in schools, thanks in part to the leadership of Rep. Kate Hogan and Rep. Lori Ehrlich. The Senate will take up its version of the bill on Thursday, October 24. Ask your State Senator to support these items: State Senators
In the first round of Housing Choice Initiative grants, 35% of projects awarded funding that included a water infrastructure component, highlighting the important role that water plays in meeting our planning and development needs.
Water Infrastructure is critical for the Commonwealth. Please do what you can today to support of water funding throughout the Commonwealth by promoting Imagine a Day Without Water!
