Governor Baker signed the Chapter 90 bill on Friday, July 16. The bill is now Chapter 25 of the Acts
of 2021.
The new law includes:
• $200 million for the core Chapter 90 Program
• An an additional $25 million for each of the following local programs:
- Municipal Small Bridge Program
- Local Bottleneck Program
- Local Transit-Supportive Infrastructure
- Municipal bus transit grants
- Municipal mass transit access
- Municipal & RTA purchases of electric vehicles and electric-vehicle infrastructure transit authorities
The law also includes language, consistent with federal law and guidance, that funds provided through the Federal American Rescue Plan Act funds (ARPA) may be used for roads and transportation infrastructure. This is a positive and important step as the state continues to determine how the
$5B in ARPA funds will be allocated
