FY25-29 MBTA Capital Investment Plan Public Comment Period Until May 16

Proposed Fiscal Years 2025-2029 MBTA Capital Investment Plan (CIP) will be presented to the MBTA Board of Directors and released to the public on Thursday April 25, 2024.  On that date the MBTA will begin a 21-day public comment period concluding on Thursday, May 16, 2024. They anticipate requesting final approval from the Board in mid-June. 

The MBTA welcomes our comments on the CIP. 

Opportunities to Engage 

The FY25-29 CIP will be published on mbta.com/CIP. We will host one virtual public meeting and one in-person public meeting to provide an overview of the proposed FY25-29 CIP and invite attendees to share their feedback: 

• Thursday, May 2, 2024, 6:30 PM at the State Transportation Building, 10 Park Plaza, 2^nd Floor, Boston, MA 02116 
• Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 6:30 PM, Virtual Public Meeting. Register at this link; details at mbta.com/events

Goals of the FY25-29 CIP 

As a blueprint for the transportation system of the future, the FY25-29 CIP sets out many urgent priorities for the MBTA. Through this plan we seek to:  

• Address critical asset needs, which are documented in the Capital Needs Assessment and Inventory report at mbta.com/CNAI. 
• Keep the T on a path to better safety, service, and sustainability, and 
• Focus on the investment objectives of safety, reliability and modernization; accessibility; and sustainability and resilience. 

These objectives are informed by the MBTA’s 2023 Strategic Plan, as described at the MBTA Board meeting of August 24^th, 2023 (link to presentation). 

The MBTA presents this CIP while realizing that there are more demands for capital investment than they have the resources to fund. In addition, they anticipate constrained financial resources in the years to come, further exacerbating their challenges in meeting their capital objectives.
