Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House 
Thursday, May 11, 2023   9 AM - 11:45 AM + Water's Worth It Day

Great Hall, 2nd Floor, Massachusetts State House, Boston. MA

Engineers, Land Surveyors, Public Works Professionals and other design professionals will meet with  Massachusetts state legislators at the State House on May 14, 2020.

Look up the Names of your State Senator and your State Representative: 

To participate in the 2 morning appointments that we will schedule for small groups of constituents based on where you live and vote, you will need to give us the names of your State Senator and your State Representative.

  • Find these names on the Massachusetts Legislature's website: https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator
  • To find your State Senator and your State Representative, on the link above enter a location or click the map
  • Look for the names of your State Senator and your State Representative, shown on the site. Write those names down.
  • Then Sign Up for May 11 on Survey Monkey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ENLS_2020​​ to register for Engineers and Land Surveyors Day (morning appointments with your state legislators that we make for you)
 

 
On May 14, 2020, ACEC/MA, BSCES, and MALSCE members gather at the Massachusetts State House for our Annual Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House along with leaders from other engineering and design-related associations. 
We arrange for meetings with our members’  Massachusetts State Representatives and State Senators based on where our members live and vote. 
 
These organizations co-sponsor the day:
  • American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA)
  • Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section/ASCE (BSCES)
  • Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers (MALSCE)
  • Massachusetts Highway Association
  • MMA Public Works, Transportation and Public Utilities Policy Commitee 
  • MMA Energy and the Environment Policy Committee
  • Massachusetts Water Works Association (MWWA)
  • Massachusetts Water Pollution Control Association (MWPCA)

Briefing Sessions for Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House:

Discuss the issues and plan how to get the most from your meetings before May 14: Join us for one of three optional, free Advance Briefing Sessions: in-person at The Engineering Center or by conference call:
Friday, May 8, 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Monday, May 11, 10:30 - 11:30 AM
Tuesday, May 12, 10:30 - 11:30 AM

May 14 Schedule:

9:10 - 9:25 AM  Registration/Breakfast (continental) and receive materials
Massachusetts State House, Great Hall - 2nd Floor. 

9:25 - 10:15 AM 

Issue Briefing and Briefing with a State Legislator
Massachusetts State House, Great Hall - 2nd Floor. 

10:30 AM (Senate) and 11:15 AM (House)

Scheduled meetings with your state legislators at the State House

11:45 AM 

Conclusion - Return any follow up materials to Great Hall or email them to us and return to your office

1:00 pm- Senator Michael Barrett, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy & Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change

Monday, May 16

1:00 pm- Representative Mindy Domb, Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture

11:00 am- Senator Jamie Eldridge, Vice Chair, Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture

Separately, we'll ask you to contact your State Representative and your State Senator based on where you live/vote. It is important for legislators to hear from us. 

Engineers and Land Surveyors at the State House - 2022 Registration

1. Before you begin registration, go to: https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator

  • Find the exact names of your State Senator and your State Representative, based on where you live/vote.  Save these names to provide them when you register on the link below.

2. Then go to this Registration Link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ELS-TR2022

We plan to organize teams of constituent engineers and land surveyors based on their legislative districts.

3. Advance Briefing Sessions: We plan to hold three Issues Briefing Sessions in May on Zoom to give you background information on the issues we will be asking you to discuss with your legislators. The sessions will be held on May 4 and May 6. We will post a power point on the issues for you to use if you are calling into a briefing session.

Background:
This is a free virtual series of events for members of ACEC/MA, BSCES, MALSCE, other associations affiliated with The Engineering Center Education Trust (TECET), and Public Members of the Massachusetts Highway Association or the MMA Policy Committee on Public Works, Transportation & Public Utilities. Please only register for this event if you live in and vote in Massachusetts. If you live outside Massachusetts, please do not plan to participate in Engineers and Land Surveyors Virtually at the State House, unless you are serving as a team captain.
