DCAMM Seeks Structural Engineer for Embodied Carbon Coordinating Council

The Climate Bill (S2967) recently signed by Governor Maura Healey includes provisions creating an Embodied Carbon Coordinating Council.

Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer and DCAMM Commissioner Adam Baacke have been designated as co-chairs of this council. 

One of the appointments the Governor Healey is seeking is a representative who is a structural engineer (PE in MA). 

DCAMM Commissioner Adam Baacke has asked ACEC/MA to provide a couple of structural engineering candidates for Governor Healey to consider appointing to this seat.  They are looking for someone who can provide both expertise in emerging technologies around low-embodied carbon materials in construction and practical perspectives on how Commonwealth can address this subject while meeting structural requirements.

A candidate must be currently licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Mechanical Engineer and reside in Massachusetts.  

Time commitment:

• Meeting cadence is not set but will likely be somewhere between monthly and quarterly, almost certainly with a virtual option for most meetings. 
• The co-chairs are hoping to get a first meeting scheduled for late February or early March.

Appointment process:

• Background Checks: Candidates will have to complete an application for a background check (tax and police check), as with service on any Massachusetts state public board
• Council members are subject to state ethics laws.
• This appointment should not impact engineer's or firm's ability to work for public agencies.
