Culverts and Small Bridges Working Group - Opportunity for Input
ACEC/MA is a member of the culverts and small bridges working group charged with recommending cost-effective policies and procedures to replace or repair deteriorated or substandard culverts and small bridges.
MassDOT and the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs coordinate this working group established by the FY2019 state budget. Its mandate is to “identify and evaluate the costs and benefits of existing environmental rules and regulations, engineering standards and permitting processes and their impact on the replacement or repair of deteriorated or substandard culverts and small bridges that measure less than 20 feet wide.”
The group met in February and is expected to present its recommendations to the Legislature within 5 months. In addition to ACEC/MA, the working group includes designees from MMA, the MA Highway Association, several state agencies and environmental advocacy groups.
ACEC/MA members who would like to provide input on the challenges or successes they have had related to culvert management/ replacement should contact Abbie Goodman, ACEC/MA Executive Director.
