-  Remember the Recommendation Form online: Your application into the 2023-2024 Scholarship Program is NOT complete without a recommendation from a consulting engineer, land surveyor, or engineering professor. Give the person who is writing your recommendation the sample shown on pages 6-7 of the Application Guidance Document. This person must complete your recommendation using the official recommendation form online here:  https://form.jotform.com/222494699330060 

Again, please note:  A scholarship applicant must complete the full application, except for the recommendation form, all at one time. You CANNOT save or retrieve this application after you submit. An applicant should carefully review the guidelines and sample application form prior to submission.  Be sure to download the Application Guidance Document  to help you prepare.

For ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships you will also need:

• Proof of enrollment in an eligible program and current GPA: An official letter from program director including the name of program and current GPA or copy of a current transcript which includes the current GPA are the only means considered acceptable.
• A copy of your Official Transcript – Including 2022 Fall Semester Grades
• Completed essay (not exceeding 500 words)
• Any other applicable essays listed on the Application Guidance Document. (2 need-based essays and one with the opportunity to provide more information). You'll want to have all of your essays as electronic text ready to paste into the online application; be sure to proofread and spellcheck the text in advance!
• Select Scholarship(s) in which you wish to apply
• ACEC Research Institute Recommendation Form - submitted separately by the person writing this. https://form.jotform.com/222494699330060 
• ACEC Research Institute Scholarship Payment Activation Form at the end of the application, in case you are selected for a national scholarship.

Guidelines & Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship is required to qualify for ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships and, subsequently, all ACEC Research Institute Scholarships. 
• In addition, for all ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships, the student must be a Massachusetts Resident or enrolled in a Massachusetts College or University.

General Scholarship Guidelines:

• Will be enrolled as junior, senior, fifth, or master’s degree year, in the fall of 2023.
• Pursuing an ABET accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering (includes geomatic engineering/land-surveying). To view a list of ABET, Inc.'s EAC accredited engineering programs, click here.  Please do not apply if you are pursuing a degree outside engineering or land surveying.

ACEC/MA Education Corporation (ACEC/MA EC) created the Presidents’ Scholarship to help celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2010 by giving back to our community. The Presidents’ Scholarship is a tribute to the outstanding leaders whose stewardship has successfully guided five decades of accomplishment.

The number and value of scholarship awards vary year to year based on application quality and funding.  In FY2023, the ACEC/Massachusetts Education Corporation plans to present two 5,000 scholarships, two Judith Nitsch (need-based scholarships) and two additional need-based scholarships to our local applicants

ACEC/MA Education Corporation plans to award some scholarships for diverse applicants and those demonstrating a financial need.  We are pleased to announce the inaugural year for the Judith Nitsch Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing an engineering or land surveying degree who are underrepresented in the field. Applicants for the Judith Nitsch Scholarship must:

• Identify as a woman or as a person of color, or both (i.e., Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latinx, or Asian);
• Be pursuing an engineering or land surveying degree at an ABET-accredited* Bachelor’s degree program as an incoming junior through senior in college; and
• Have an intended or declared major in engineering or land surveying.
• Preference will be given to applicants who show demonstrated financial need.

The ACEC Massachusetts Education Corporation will be awarding two additional need-based scholarship. In addition to a demonstrated need, applicants shall meet the following criteria:

• Be pursuing a declared engineering or land surveying degree at an ABET-accredited* Bachelor’s degree program as an incoming junior, senior or master's year in college/graduate school; and
• Have an intended or declared major in engineering or land surveying.

Scholarship applications are due January 26, 2023. The scholarships are being provided by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts Education Corporation. Scholarship applicants apply on an electronic platform administered by the American Council of Engineering Companies at the national level.  Massachusetts candidates' applications are then forwarded to the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts Education Corporation

Scholarship Payment

• For ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships: Payment will be made to the student. Ideally the student will attend the ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on March 27, 2023, in Boston as a guest of ACEC/MA.
• Applications into the ACEC/MA Educational Corporation Scholarship program will also be under consideration to receive a scholarship from the ACEC Research Institute at the national level. 

ACEC Research Institute Scholarships

Under the auspices of ACEC’s College of Fellows, the ACEC Research Institute will award general scholarships, specialty scholarships, as well as Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships.

Guidelines & Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship is required to qualify for any of these Scholarships.

Specialty Scholarship Guidelines: 

• Coalition of American Structural Engineers (CASE) Scholarship
  • Only students who are enrolled in a Master’s degree program for Structural Engineering in fall of 2023 will be eligible for the CASE scholarship. Student must either be in an ABET-accredited MS engineering program or have a BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Lee Rice LRE Water Scholarship
  • Students must be enrolled in their junior, senior or 5th year, or pursuing a master’s degree in engineering geology, water engineering or natural resource engineering related fields.

Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Guidelines: 

• J.A. Watts, Inc. Diversity in Engineering Scholarship
  • This scholarship will award funding to students of color who have been traditionally underrepresented in the field of engineering.
• Kimley-Horn Diversity in STEM Scholarship
  • This scholarship will award funding to students of color who have been traditionally underrepresented in the field of engineering and attend a Historically Black College or University, 2.8 minimum GPA
• Kimley-Horn Diversity in STEM Scholarship (Needs-Based)
  • This scholarship will award funding to students of color who have been traditionally underrepresented in the field of engineering, 2.8 minimum GPA
• Stanley Consultants, Inc. Diversity in Engineering Scholarship (Needs-Based)
• Stanley Consultants, Inc. Helping Hands Scholarship (Needs-Based)

For Diversity Scholarships, students self-identify as American Indian/Alaskan Native, Black, Asian/Pacific, Islander, Hispanic/Latino, and/or Mixed Race; women, people with disabilities, veterans and LGBTQ+.

A student can receive only one ACEC National scholarship during the student’s academic career.

For any ACEC National Scholarship: Payments will be made to the academic institution beginning July 1 for the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications should be as complete as possible. Each portion of the application has a specific point value. Judges will score each section separately. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

Scoring
• Cumulative Grade Point Average: 20 points
• Essay: 25 points
• Work Experience: 27 points
Work experience will be limited to 2020-2022. List your most recent work experience first and include any jobs held during high school if within the three-year period. Indicate the year in school during which you held a particular position. Indicate if your work experience was in the form of work-study, co-op, or practicum. Clearly identify the nature of the business of the listed employers; in particular, note consulting engineering or land surveying firms. Be complete and accurate. The more experience you list, the higher your potential score.
• Recommendation: 15 points
A recommendation is needed from a consulting engineer, land surveyor or engineering professor. Use the official form—a letter is not sufficient. Letters sent in addition to forms will not be read. Greater weight will be given for a recommendation from a consulting engineer or land surveyor. The evaluator must use the official recommendation form found here. 
• Extracurricular College Activities: 13 points
List all college activities under the indicated categories and years. Include offices held and other leadership roles in any organizations. Be as complete as possible. If there are no activities, write “none”. The more activities you list, the higher your potential score.
