ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarship
Our scholarship application process is now open for FY2025.

The text below describes scholarships available in FY2025.
The ACEC/MA Education Corporation provides educational scholarships to advance the engineering and land surveying profession. We work with the ACEC Research Institute to have students apply through their scholarship portal.
Application Portal:
- Students apply for an ACEC/MA Education Corporation FY2025 Scholarship on the ACEC Research Institute Scholarship Portal on Award Spring.
- The direct Portal Link is: https://acecinstitute.awardspring.com/
- On the ACEC Research Institute Scholarship Portal, each applicant will be asked to create a login and password. Save this information, so you can go back to your applications on the portal and add more information.

Fill out the General Application to unlock opportunities. Once you finish the application, the ACEC Research Institute Scholarship Portal will automatically match you to all opportunities for scholarships for which you're eligible. You may then have a few additional questions to answer to be considered for additional scholarships.
In Fiscal Year 2025, the ACEC/MA Education Corporation will award 3 types of scholarships:
- ACEC/Massachusetts Education Corporation-President's Scholarship
- The Nitsch Engineering-Judith Nitsch Scholarship
- Additional essay question required: Please share in an essay how you are financing your education. What impact will this financial assistance from ACEC/MA Education Corporation have on you, both present and future? (500 words)
- ACEC/Massachusetts Education Corporation Need-Based Scholarship
- Additional essay question required: Please share in an essay how you are financing your education. What impact will this financial assistance from the ACEC/MA Education Corporation have on you, both present and future? (500 words)
To apply for any of the ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships you will also need:
- Your current college/university transcript, including 2024 Fall Semester Grades. You will be uploading this on the scholarships Portal.
- Completed essays
- Any other applicable essays listed on the Portal for a specific application. You'll want to write your essays outside the platform and then save them as electronic text ready to paste into the online application. Be sure to proofread and spellcheck the text in advance and once you post it!
- ACEC Research Institute Recommendation Form - submitted separately online by the person writing this recommendation.
- You will need a recommendation from a consulting engineer, land surveyor or engineering professor.
- You will want to notify your recommender/form recipient well in advance as they will submit their recommendation using an online form on the Portal that will link to your general scholarship application. You must utilize the request form on the portal to request a recommendation from a consulting engineer, land surveyor, or engineering professor who knows you, the applicant. You will need to confirm with the consulting engineer, land surveyor or engineering professor who is submitting your recommendation to make sure that they receive an email from the Portal about how to submit your recommendation and make sure that their recommendation is submitted on time!
- Note: The online request form generates a direct email request to the person who will submit your recommendation with a link to an online form that they will need to complete. They must use the online form. A PDF/letter is not sufficient and will not be considered. Any letters sent in addition to the online form will not be considered.
- Judges will give greater weight will be given for recommendations from a consulting engineer or land surveyor.

Guidelines & Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required to qualify for ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships and, subsequently, all ACEC Research Institute Scholarships.
- ​Students must currently be enrolled in a college or university and pursuing an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering (including geomatic engineering/land-surveying). To view a list of ABET, Inc.'s EAC-accredited engineering programs. Click here.
- Student will be enrolled as junior, senior, fifth, or master’s degree year, in the fall of 2025.
- In addition, for all ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships, the student must be a Massachusetts Resident or enrolled in a Massachusetts College or University.
- Please do not apply if you are pursuing a degree outside engineering or land surveying.
Background:
ACEC/MA Education Corporation (ACEC/MA EC) created the Presidents’ Scholarship to help celebrate ACEC/MA's 50th anniversary in 2010 by giving back to our community. The Presidents’ Scholarship is a tribute to the outstanding leaders whose stewardship has successfully guided more than six decades of accomplishment.
The number and value of scholarship awards vary year to year based on application quality and funding. In FY2025, the ACEC/Massachusetts Education Corporation plans to present two general scholarships, one Judith Nitsch Scholarship and at least one additional need-based scholarships to our local applicants.
ACEC/MA Education Corporation awards some scholarships for diverse applicants and those demonstrating a financial need.
Applicants for The Nitsch Engineering-Judith Nitsch Scholarship must:
- Identify as a woman or as a person of color, or both (i.e., Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latinx, or Asian);
- Be pursuing an engineering or land surveying degree at an ABET-accredited* Bachelor’s degree program as an incoming junior through senior in college; and
- Have an intended or declared major in engineering or land surveying.
- Preference will be given to applicants who show demonstrated financial need.
Applicants for the ACEC/Massachusetts Education Corporation Need-Based Scholarship must demonstrate their financial need and meet the following criteria:
- Be pursuing a declared engineering or land surveying degree at an ABET-accredited* Bachelor’s degree program as an incoming junior, senior or master's year in college/graduate school; and
- Have an intended or declared major in engineering or land surveying.
Scholarship applications are due January 22, 2025. The scholarships are being provided by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts Education Corporation. All scholarship applicants apply on the ACEC Research Institute platform above. Massachusetts candidates' applications are then forwarded to the ACEC/MA Education Corporation
Scholarship Payment
- For ACEC/MA Education Corporation Scholarships: Payment will be made to the student. Ideally the student will attend the ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on April 7, 2025, in Boston as a guest of ACEC/MA.
- Applications into the ACEC/MA Educational Corporation Scholarship program will also be under consideration to receive a scholarship from the ACEC Research Institute at the national level.
ACEC Research Institute Scholarships
Under the auspices of ACEC’s College of Fellows, the ACEC Research Institute will award general scholarships, specialty scholarships, as well as Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships.
Guidelines & Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required to qualify for any of these Scholarships.
- A student can receive only one ACEC National scholarship during the student’s academic career.
- For any ACEC National Scholarship: Payments will be made to the academic institution beginning July 1 for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications should be as complete as possible. Each portion of the application has a specific point value. Judges will score each section separately. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
